If US North American DSL Providers would upgrade their DSL lines like they have in Europe the connections would not be so bad. But Americans are so on their knees these days that they complain about anything yet do nothing like good little sheep led to the grinder.

    Yay for blanket stereotypes!

But yes, our internet providers are… pretty much diabolic.

  3. I have not met anyone with a download rate sower then 150 Kb/s in Canaduh. My download never went down below 210 Kb/s.

Is he making this up or is the average USA DSl line really that slow ? That sounds insane.

  4. I can assure you there are lines that slow in the US, these are usually the basic discounted DSL lines that aren’t advertised or are bundled with packages.

My hometown’s basic offering is $49/mo for a 320Kbps/240Kbps bundle including 200 minutes of long distance calling with the DSL internet service.

320Kbps comes to a sustained download rate of about 32-38KB/sec.

My work however keeps me in most metro areas like Los Angeles and Chicago, so I’m often spoiled by 1-3Mbps Cable in those areas.

But just like the many many gamers out there that don’t own the hi-end gaming rigs built just this year in order to run AoC with good performance, many MMO gamers are still stuck on slow broadband or dialup connections. Quite a few of the posters in the AoC forum thread were rightfully worried given the speed of their connections on whether this service would even be available in time.

  5. wow.

I live in Canada and just upgraded to a 3 MB connection for $ 29 per month……

You guys are misunderstanding the post. Some people have 6Mbit DSL connections, but they are only getting 40k/sec from the downloader.
At least that’s what I experienced. I found a post explaining how to limit your upload connection speed and it brought it up to 380k/sec. Still not great, but I’ll live.

At least I’m assuming that’s what the author means. Because the slowest DSL that AT&T offers is 768Kb/s.

  7. That makes much more sense. Sounds like the DSL provider is capping peoples P2P traffic or something to that effect.

I wonder if there is any way to go around that for you guys..? Worth checking into.
