Spectral Tiger Card Sells For $2000.00

Spectral Tiger Loot CardNot more than a day ago an eBay seller named chucknorrisx5 sold a Spectral Tiger Loot Card for a record $2000.00.

What’s this card all about? It’s WoW TCG loot card with a scratch-off code that lets you redeem an in-game mount called the Spectral Tiger. It looks pretty cool minus a couple graphical glitches, and is available in both normal 60% and epic 100% speeds.

With only 4 days until the official debut of the TCG Fires of Outland card set it didn’t seem to stop any of the 8 bidders that pushed the starting price from $250.00 to the winning bid of $2000.00 in just 5 days. Hmm Big Screen LCD HDTV or translucent in-game Epic mount…

If MMO developers ever needed more proof about the 80/20 rule with 80% of your profits come from 20% of your users in a micro-transaction based system, instances like this only show the type of value players are willing to put on virtual loot.

  1. Hmmm, let’s think about this. Should I spend $2000 on a stupid mount or simply use that money to play any MMO for 11 YEARS? I think my decision is made.

  2. No kidding. I mean, damn. I want one too, but $2000? I’d pay MAYBE $50. Maybe.

Give it a week if that long and it’ll be down to about $300-500 just like all the other rare cards like that turtle mount. Another month or two after that and I bet it does go down to $75-100.

I went to the vid store today 8/25/07, bought 10 packs and got a spectral tiger mount card. Maybe I’m lucky but anyone who pays 2k for an imaginary mount in an imaginary game is just stupid.

  6. kitty.power.go

There are two kinds of the spectral tiger card, loot versions and non-loot versions (aka cards without numbers on them for redeeming in-game.)

Don’t get too trigger-happy on the bidding process if you’re not careful. Actually don’t go through the bidding process period, imo. For $500 you could… do a lot of stuff.

  7. kitty.power.go

and come to think of it, with $500 being the avg bid/buyout, that’s about 8 booster boxes (if the price is in direct proportion to rarity). If this were true, you’d have less than a 20% to get the loot kitty in a booster box.

    Pretty bad odds.
