Perry Quits Shiny, Finds Buyers

Dave Perry resigned from Shiny Entertainment, the game development studio he founded, to find buyers when Atari decided to sell it off.

“Atari can go ahead and sell Shiny but I think I can help too because I’m on the board of a lot of things. I can bring a lot of parties to the table and I can do that faster if I hit the streets myself,” said Perry, who began hitting his contacts Friday and said there was “a lot of interest out there.”

“If I’m an employee of Atari, then I’d be stepping all over them. This way, I’m representing a buyer. I can act swiftly and get buyers on the table. I pitched Shiny last time and got $47 million.”

I respect Mr. Perry, I love his vision, drive, and passion. I only hope he gets Shiny back to where they were, without the movie license, and back to being creative and cranking out mind-blowing games. Sure, Messiah was bug-ridden but it was unique and fun. Earthworm Jim? Don’t get me started on the awesomeness; ditto on MDK and Sacrifice. Shiny is one of those game development studios that would be a shame to lose in the industry. It’d be right up there with losing Looking Glass Studios.
